Observation on my students' play skills.
Last Year, My Inquiry was focused on developing student‘s engagement through play-based learning. This year is a continuation from last year focussing on our school-wide goal “Play-Based Learning”
This year I have a few new students in my class and their play skills are a bit different to the group of students I had last year. This group of students can engage in a play activity for a longer period of time. However, they are still at the stage of solitary play but beginning to show some interest in others' play activities.
Play areas
In term one, my learners were given opportunities to access play activities throughout the day. A variety of play areas were set up and the students had the freedom to access any play activities whenever
they needed.
The students were very happy and enjoyed their play. They played alongside each other but also began to show interest in the same activity as others. When they want a particular piece of lego or Mr. Potato head they are able to help themselves to it while others play with it. This often created a challenging atmosphere between the students because they are not yet able to share the same toys.
Through my observation, I decided for My Inquiry this year
that I will focus on my students' social skills.
“Can learners develop positive and good social skills through play?”
