Welcome to another year-2021

My 2021 Teaching Inquiry

My Inquiry this year is a continuation from the last year-Based on our School-wide goal “Play-Based Learning”

How can play-based learning actively engage my learners and develop good social skills?

At the beginning of this year, I started with 6 boys, ages between 6-8 years old. Three were students from last year and three are new students.

From my first few weeks of observation, I noticed the same conflict occurring within the same four boys. These boys become frustrated and are challenged during free playtime. Instead of joyfully playing with one another their frustration is mostly about - Who gets the first turn?  And Why can't I have that toy now? If I did not see the conflict happen, I cannot tell who had the toy first or who snatched it off who. Therefore sometimes it is difficult to resolve. This became a daily issue in our classroom during free play. “Student 1” often loses the plot, screams loudly and takes him a while to calm down. “Student 2" will cry, hold on to the toy and will not let go. “Student 3” mimics any cries or screams from the scenario. Oh Boy!!.... When this happens in my classroom it encourages me to think of how play-based learning can be used as a tool to actively engage in joyful play and develop good social skills.
